We understand this may be disappointing, and we appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the needs of our community during this time.

At 9:46 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, Suwannee Middle School (SMS) received an anonymous tip of a firearm on campus.

Out of an abundance of caution, SMS and all other SCSD schools in the area went into an immediate lockdown.

The SMS campus was throughly swept and found the claim to be invalid and no imminent threat was on campus.

Following a complete check of the campus, SMS and all other SCSD schools resumed normal operations.

Thank you to Live Oak Police Department and the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office for their quick response and assistance on ensuring our students and faculty members safety.
